Nano in Smart Structures

Date: 24th May 2012
Venue: Hughes Hall, Cambridge

We invite you to the first meeting in this series, aiming to address potential networking and collaboration opportunities between the traditional branches of engineering, manufacturing and nanotechnology in the field of smart, sustainable buildings and structures.  Potential topics include, but are not limited to, the various aspects of nano-composites and smart-coating, environmental and remote sensing devices and systems, energy harvesting, enhancement of natural and artificial composite materials and their up-scalable manufacturability.

Bill Milne, Department of Engineering, Electronic Devices and Materials Group; Centre for Advanced Photonics and Electronics.

Tagging and Networking Session:

Campbell Middleton, Department of Engineering, Structures Research Group.
Ian Wassell, Computer Laboratory, Digital Technology Group.

Sensors Session:

Clemens Kaminski, Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, Laser Analytics Group.
Mohammed El Shafie, Department of Engineering, Geotechnical and Environmental Research Group.

Nano-Composites Session:

Michael Ramage, Department of Architecture, Traditional Building Construction Research Group.
Krzysztof Koziol, Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy, Advanced Carbon Nanostructures Group.
Alan Windle,  Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy, Macromolecular Materials Group.

Smart Surfaces and Windows Session:

Daping Chu, Department of Engineering, Photonics and Sensors Group.
Mauro Overend, Department of Engineering, Glass & Facade Technology Research Group.

Discussions and brainstorming with the audience are a key part of this workshop.

This workshop is organised by Tawfique Hasan and Alex Finnemore (NanoForum Fellows).
